Aces Up Brings the Undead to Life.

Late one afternoon towards the end of 2010, the creative teams at Ireland/Davenport received The Dream Brief: "Create a multi-faceted campaign to launch an upcoming series about a post-apocalyptic world inhabited by mobs of zombies who stumble around picking off survivors and basically eating them. Go wild." Needless to say the excitement around the boardroom table that afternoon was tangible.

But when creative teams start getting excited, that's generally when those who deal with the business and logistical aspects of turning great ideas into great ads start getting nervous. And understandably so. It's one thing to draw up a storyboard, stand in front of a client and say, "Cool, so this is how your campaign will turn out. Awesome… " and quite another to actually pull it all together, especially when budgets barely cover the cost of the coffee in the studio.

So when creatives get a chance to work with a company that takes on an idea as if it were their own – with the kind of passion, excitement and can-do attitude that turns even the most challenging projects a pleasure – it's a remarkable experience. And it's precisely that attitude that Aces Up brings to the party. It may be a cliché to say, "Difficult I can do, impossible may take a little longer," but in the case of Aces Up, it's a daily reality. The combination of Liesl's infectious enthusiasm and apparently limitless list of contacts, and Zama's laid-back approach (so laid back that the man would fall over if his chair didn't have a high back) that belies a keen eye and natural talent, meant that the director, agency, and (perhaps most importantly) the client were happy every step of the way.

With the invaluable assistance of the Aces Up team, Ireland/Davenport was able to deliver a campaign for the hit AMC TV series, "The Walking Dead" that has already featured in several international awards shows, including One Show and D&AD. Without a doubt, the final product went beyond anything those creatives could have imagined around the boardroom table that afternoon.

We just proved that by collaborating with great partners like General Post, Blade, 7 Films, Ireland Davenport and Mineseeker to pull off a competition not done before in SA called "SA's next top editor" and we now welcome Lucian Barnard the winner of the competition to our home in Joburg and we just know he will do well, especially with Shaun Broude who has also just joined Aces Up, to mentor him.

Bring us your rushes and enjoy!
