It all started when producer Liesl Karpinski (née Lategan) found herself at a crossroad in her career path.

In August 2008 she dug up the courage and pushed the boundaries which led to the birth of Aces Up Post Production studio. The aim was to start a boutique-style post production and animation studio – cost effective but stylish and friendly.

Aces Up operates from its offices in Bryanston, Johannesburg and employs seven exceptionally talented individuals on a full-time basis. Each one entrenches their unique style into every project they tackle.

Brands that the studio has worked with in the past include Coca-Cola, Incredible Connection, MTN South Africa, BMW South Africa, Cell C and Edgars.

The team's energy and creativity led them to accolades over the past four years that include a D&AD, Loerie, Pendoring Gold, SAMA and APEX.

Liesl Karpinski is the Managing Director of Aces Up Post Production and the management team is completed by Dave Theron (animation director) and Shaun Broude (senior editor).

ANIMATION TEAM RANKED TOPS

Aces Up Animation is honoured to have been ranked within the top 3 animation studios based on its performance at this year's Loerie Awards.

 

 

Animator David Theron was responsible for the creation of the award-winning Walking Dead Washing Powder, Bedtime Story and Lunch. Together with technical artist, Gigh Zack, they worked on the animated Parlotones’ ‘It’s magic’ music video that was awarded Best Music Video at the South African Music Awards (SAMA) earlier this year.

 

With a strong background in fine art Theron attended the Vega School in Johannesburg where he acquired the skills and nuances that allows him to apply his artistic talents to the world of advertising.

 

“I am often asked how one breathes life into an image and my answer is quite simple – ‘magic’.”

 

Zack, a lover of echo’s, shadows and pixels amongst a myriad of other things that can’t be is a talented animator and it is clearly seen in his award-winning projects.
